This proverb has two opposite meanings. Negative meaning (1) - A person who is reluctant to do something finds an excuse not to do it. Positive meaning (2) Those who take pleasure in doing something good or bad are more enthusiastic when given the opportunity. There is contradiction in both meanings.

या म्हणीचे दोन उपरोधिक अन्वयार्थ आहेत. नकारात्मक अर्थ (1) - मुळातच आळशी व्यक्तीला त्याच्या आळशी वृत्तीला पोषक अशी स्थिती निर्माण होणे. सकारात्मक अर्थ (2) चांगली किंवा वाईट गोष्ट करण्यात आनंद मानणाऱ्यांना संधी प्राप्त झाली की जास्त उत्साह येतो. दोन्ही अर्थांमधे उपरोध आहेच.
